Tesco Every little helps 20:20 Mobile

Thursday, August 18th, 2011

After more than 6 months of negotiation T-Mobile and Orange are set to return to Tesco Phone Shop.

T-Mobile contracts have already resumed across all Tesco’s 194 phone shops with Orange reported to resume within a few weeks.

Talks began after Tesco changed it’s distributor from Shebang to 20:20 mobile, 20:20 only having an agreement with Everything Everywhere to sell prepay. As you can imagine Everything Everywhere where keen to see Orange and T-Mobile deals back on Tesco’s shelves.

Sources say Everything Everywhere was keen to cut a new and closer deal with Tesco Mobile, which would give it more control over issues such as staff training, marketing and higher margins.

It was widely expected a deal would have been reached before the Christmas last year but negotiations dragged on until this month as both parties failed to agree terms.

Sources say the deal sees Everything Everywhere sign a dual brand prepay and contract agreement with Tesco, with fulfilment delivered by 20:20 Mobile.

There has been no word from Everything Everywhere or Tesco Mobile Shop on the new deal or why negotiations had taken so long.

Speculation over who came out on top and who held out for a more favourable deal will rumble on, But one thing is certain 20:20 Mobile have done very nicely from it. Yes Orange and T-Mobile combined are huge,  but did you know £1 in every £11 spent in the UK goes to Tesco!

Free films from iTunes thanks to Orange Film To Go

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

Orange is set to launch a major new customer reward initiative this week in partnership with iTunes!

‘Orange Film To Go’ gives customers a film to download every week!

From Thursday 11 August, ‘Orange Film To Go’ will offer every one of its customers a film to download from iTunes every Thursday (worth up to £4.49), at no cost*. What’s more, they will be able to download a film and watch it on a mobile device where and when it suits them.

All Orange customers, be they on pay as you go, pay monthly, broadband or business will be able to take up the offer every Thursday by simply requesting a code by texting ‘FILMTOGO’ to 85060*, via the dedicated ‘Orange Film To Go’ mobile application or by logging onto the facebook.com/orangefilmclub page. From there they will be directed to enter the code via the orange.co.uk/filmtogo micro site to start the iTunes download**, which can then be viewed on a laptop, PC or on an Apple mobile device so that customers have the flexibility to enjoy the film wherever they like.

* texts will cost 35p

Once films are downloaded, they will be available for 30 days or for 48hrs from when users commence watching a title.

An average two hour film (1 – 1.5 GB) will take approximately 18 – 24 minutes to download using a 5mbit/s broadband connection, or 54 – 72 minutes for an average two hour film in HD (3 – 4.5 GB). Source: Apple http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1577

** Due to the large file sizes of film downloads, users should always download films via a broadband or wifi connection. Downloading via 3G to a mobile device will incur significant data charges. Whilst Apple devices (iPad, iPhone) put an automatic block on downloading files over 20mb, other devices may allow downloads over 3G which should be avoided.

Customers must be over 13 to be able to register with iTunes and open an account in which to store their film. Customers will also be asked to confirm that they are of the right age to be able to watch the film each week.
