Life is Good, and getting better. LG’s new entry into the touch screen mobile phone arena is making waves and causing people to rethink their buying options regarding this sizzling hot technology. What used to require a large cash outlay or the signing of a long-term contract agreement can now be had for around 49 pounds. The LG Cookie is the perfect answer to those who are budget-conscious but still want all the bells and whistles a mobile phone is now capable of delivering.

The first thing you’ll notice about the LG KP500 (endearingly dubbed the ‘Cookie’) is that it’s small, slim and attractive. It looks good in your hand and fits easily into your pocket or purse. But that’s just the beginning. Its list of features and functions is long and impressive, especially for a mobile phone in its price range.
The second thing that’s immediately noticeable about this little phone is that it has no keypad. Everything is done interactively on the large 3-inch screen. It comes with a stylus but, unless you possess extra large hands, is touch responsive enough to work fine with the use of a finger.
The stylus does come into play, however, when using some of the functions such as hand writing recognition or drawing. It’s all good. This is a true multi-media device and offers a raft of applications to satisfy both the serious user and those who just want to play.
When you want to send a text using this phone you have three options. You can either employ the use of a display that looks like the standard telephone keypad found on most phones, write using the stylus and the Cookies hand writing recognition or choose a display that resembles a typewriter keyboard. To get to the keyboard (QWERTY) option, you simply rotate the phone ninety degrees and up pops a landscape view of a typical keyboard. It’s very cool.
Of course this phone incorporates a digital camera, with lots of adjustments for tweeking the parameters of your pictures. And there’s a great FM radio player that sounds very good through the earbuds that are part of the accessories package. All the stuff you’re used to finding on phones, like a calendar, clock, appointment book, etc., is also a mere touch away.
The Cookie sports two homepage screens, both of which you can easily customize. The default screen contains icons you can drag and drop to access the radio and music player, calendar and memos, picture files and clock(s). If you want to put some order to the placement of these icons, just give the phone a shake and they will automatically align on the screen. A quick swipe puts you onto the second homepage, which is the location for your speed-dial phone numbers. It will accept up to eight.
Finally, there’s the phone function. Of course, you want a mobile phone that can make phone calls, and this one performs this task as you would expect. The only difference is that, to make a call there are no buttons to press but, rather, a display appears that resembles a typical phone keypad, and you enter the numbers in there. All in all, the LG Cookie is a marvel of technology. It offers features found only on more expensive units, but at a fraction of the cost.
